If you’re passionate about photography and making a meaningful impact, we’d love for you to join us on our humanitarian photography workshop in Victoria Falls, Zambia. It’s a great opportunity to sharpen your skills, learn about the role photography can play to nonprofits, and document the work by inspiring social and environmental impact work. It’s also a unique way to travel, as you’ll have a fully immersive cultural experience, based on the banks of the Zambezi River within reach of Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. You’ll be guided by Anna Lusty, a professional humanitarian photographer, who will provide personal tutoring, introduce you to nonprofit photography, and support you throughout the experience.
You’ll be based at Kamunjila Lodge, a peaceful riverside retreat just outside Livingstone, surrounded by lush gardens and overlooking the Zambezi. We’ll be visiting small charities in the surrounding communities; nonprofits that are doing impactful work on a grassroots level. The causes we photograph are varied and often include education, skill development, poverty reduction, gender equality, food security, animal welfare, and environmental initiatives. As a volunteer photographer on this program, you’ll help create a database of strong images for each organization, so that they’ll have powerful visual tools for raising awareness of their cause.

We'll stay at the beautiful Kamunjila Lodge, a peaceful riverside retreat on the banks of the Zambezi River just outside Livingstone. Surrounded by lush gardens and overlooking the water, the lodge offers comfortable en-suite accommodation, inviting communal spaces, a refreshing swimming pool, and a welcoming atmosphere that provides the perfect place to relax after a rewarding day in the field. Just a short drive from Livingstone, you'll have easy access to vibrant cafés, restaurants and local markets, while remaining immersed in the tranquillity of the Zambezi. Keep an eye on the riverbanks, where hippos are often heard at night, and enjoy the abundance of birdlife that makes the lodge a wonderful destination in its own right. Ideally located for exploring one of Africa's most iconic destinations, Kamunjila Lodge provides the perfect base for our workshop. During your free time, you'll have the opportunity to experience the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, or discover the rich culture, history and wildlife that make Livingstone such a special destination.
Anna Lusty
Originally from the UK, Anna has lived and worked in South Africa for almost two decades. She splits her time between commercial and voluntary photography projects, and has many years of experience in documenting the work of charitable organisations. Anna is a strong believer of photography as a powerful tool for nonprofits to tell their stories and raise funds. She travels extensively for her nonprofit work, and her images have been used for websites, annual and donor reports, brochures and flyers, coffee table books for major donors and for specific campaigns.

You’ll work with NGOs focused on education, poverty reduction, gender equality, food security, animal welfare, and environmental initiatives.
You should have a good camera, basic editing skills, and a solid understanding of photography fundamentals. You don’t need to be a pro, just passionate and prepared.
Weekdays include theory sessions, NGO photo shoots, and post-production work. Weekends are free for rest or exploring the area.
