Costa Rica FAQs

Do I need a visa to travel to Costa Rica?

Most travelers from the U.S., Canada, the EU, and many other countries do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. However, you must have a valid passport and proof of onward travel, such as a return flight ticket. Always check current entry requirements with your local embassy or consulate before traveling.

Is Costa Rica safe for tourists?

Costa Rica is one of the safest countries in Central America for travelers. Petty theft can occur, as in most places, so it’s always important to take standard precautions like keeping valuables secure and being aware of your surroundings. But we’ll be traveling in a group, with local guides, which makes it very safe.

3. What currency is used in Costa Rica, and can I use U.S. dollars?

The official currency is the Costa Rican colón (CRC), but U.S. dollars are widely accepted, especially in tourist areas. It’s still a good idea to carry some local currency for small purchases or in rural areas. ATMs are widely available.

What's the weather like in Costa Rica?

Costa Rica has two main seasons: the dry season (December–April) and the green or rainy season (May–November). The dry season offers sunny days ideal for exploring, while the rainy season brings vibrant greenery, fewer crowds, and excellent opportunities for dramatic, moody photography.

Do I need vaccinations?

No mandatory vaccinations are required for most travelers, but the CDC recommends being up to date on routine vaccines such as tetanus, hepatitis A, and typhoid. If you’re traveling from a country with yellow fever risk, you may need proof of vaccination. Consult your doctor or a travel clinic before departure.

How physically demanding is the photo tour?

The tour includes light to moderate hiking in national parks and nature reserves. Most locations are accessible, but some trails may be uneven. We always pace the group to suit photography needs and physical comfort.

What gear should I bring?

Bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera with a zoom lens (e.g., 70–300mm), a wide-angle lens for landscapes, a tripod, extra batteries, memory cards, a rain cover, and a laptop or hard drive for backup. A macro lens is optional but great for insects and frogs.

Is your photo tour suitable for beginners?

Yes! Our Costa Rica photography tours cater to all skill levels. Beginners will receive hands-on guidance, while experienced photographers can enjoy advanced tips and personalized shooting opportunities.

When is the best time of year for a photo tour in Costa Rica?

The dry season (December to April) offers clear skies and great light. However, the green season (May to November) features lush vegetation and active wildlife. Both seasons have unique photographic advantages.

Are photography workshops included in the tour?

Yes. Our tour includes daily instruction, image reviews, and post-processing tips. Whether it’s understanding natural light or perfecting composition, you’ll improve your skills throughout the journey.
