WILDSHOTS OUTREACH

Partnering for Purpose: Wild Shots Outreach

Wild Shots Outreach is a South African nonprofit that empowers young people from disadvantaged communities through wildlife photography. Their hands-on workshops, mentoring, and wilderness experiences help youth develop skills, confidence, and a deep connection to nature, while opening pathways to careers in conservation and tourism. Their Bursary Programme further supports education and professional opportunities, nurturing the next generation of conservationists.

At Penda Photo Tours, we believe in the transformative power of photography to inspire curiosity, care, and action for the natural world. That’s why for every client who travels with us, a percentage of your tour fee goes directly to Wild Shots Outreach. By joining one of our tours, you’re not just having an incredible photography experience, you’re actively supporting their workshops, bursaries, and programmes, helping to empower young Africans and protect wildlife. Your adventure becomes part of this meaningful movement.

IBALI PHOTO COLLECTIVE

Impact through storytelling

Photography is more than just taking pictures  – it’s a powerful way for people to explore who they are and how they see the world. That idea is at the heart of Ibali, a program designed to teach photography to young people in Cape Town’s under-resourced communities. We’re proud to support this initiative.

South Africa is a country full of potential, but many young people face daily challenges and have limited exposure to life beyond their immediate surroundings. Ibali  – which means “story” in Xhosa – gives these youth the tools to see their world differently. By learning photography, they not only gain a creative outlet but also develop confidence, perspective, and a voice.

The program provides practical photography training, space for creative expression, and ongoing personal mentorship. Participants are encouraged to document their lives and speak out on the issues that matter in their communities. Their photos and stories spark conversations, raise awareness, and can even inspire real social change.

HUMANITARIAN WORKSHOP

Photography that builds bridges and amplifies voices

One of the most meaningful ways we’ve seen photography create impact is through our long-standing Humanitarian Photography Workshop in South Africa. At its core, this initiative is about helping nonprofits tell their stories. Many of the organisations we work with are doing vital work within their communities but lack access to high-quality visual content to communicate their impact. Through this program, our guests help bridge that gap.

By creating a library of powerful, authentic imagery, these organisations are better equipped to raise awareness, connect with supporters, and secure the funding they need to continue their work. Strong storytelling is essential in the nonprofit world, and photography plays a crucial role in making those stories visible. What makes this program so special is its balance, it’s a genuine exchange. While our guests gain invaluable experience in real-world storytelling and a deeper understanding of ethical photography, the organisations we partner with receive a lasting resource that continues to benefit them long after the workshop ends.

It’s a simple idea, but a powerful one: using photography not just to observe the world, but to actively support the people working to improve it.

RESPONSIBLE PHOTOGRAPHY IN ACTION

Thoughtfully designed, responsibly delivered

Every Penda Photo Tours itinerary is carefully crafted with purpose, not just to deliver exceptional photographic opportunities, but to ensure that our trips have a positive and lasting impact on the places we visit. We work exclusively with partners, guides, and operators who share our values. Those who prioritise ethical practices, respect for wildlife, and genuine support for local communities. From the camps we stay in to the people who guide us in the field, we choose to collaborate with those who are deeply invested in conservation and sustainable tourism.

This means supporting locally owned businesses where possible, working with guides who have an intimate knowledge of their landscapes, and ensuring that wildlife encounters are always conducted responsibly and with care. We believe that great photography should never come at the expense of the subject, the environment, or the people connected to it.

By travelling with us, you’re not only experiencing some of the world’s most remarkable destinations, you’re helping to support the ecosystems, communities, and conservation efforts that make these experiences possible.
