A journey where storytelling meets social impact

Join us on a photography trip that brings you into the heart of Tanzania’s communities with your camera as the bridge. It’s an invitation to document everyday moments, local community initiatives, and the people driving meaningful change. With guidance from Anna Lusty, a seasoned humanitarian photographer, you’ll learn how to use visual storytelling not only to observe, but to support and amplify the work of local leaders.

Across Maasai communities, you’ll spend time with people doing grassroots social development and conservation work. You’ll learn about the goals of these projects and create images that will be donated to them, so that they have additional tools to tell their stories.

Open to photographers of all levels, the experience blends hands-on mentorship with meaningful encounters, helping you develop a documentary approach rooted in empathy and impact. The result is a body of work that grows from genuine collaboration and shared purpose.

Storytelling in Tanzania

Your Photographic Experience

On this journey, your lens will follow stories that matter - from the everyday life in Maasai villages to nonprofit projects that uplift communities. You’ll have access to deeply human moments: drawing water at the river, building traditional bomas, engaging in women’s dialogue circles, and participating in health, education and livelihood initiatives. The images you’ll create will be shared with the nonprofit groups you work with, giving them a visual voice for fundraising, advocacy and storytelling. Your presence and your work will help sustain their impact in a tangible way: strong visuals can change how organisations are perceived, can mobilise support, and can deepen public understanding of the change they are striving for. Throughout the trip, you’ll be mentored by Anna Lusty, an experienced humanitarian photographer. Anna brings both technical insight and a strong ethical framework, rooted in her years documenting nonprofit work. She’ll guide you through theory sessions, field shoots, and regular one-on-one reviews. Whether you’re just beginning or already confident with your camera, you’ll grow in your ability to tell stories that resonate, inspire, and help others see the world through new eyes.

Feedback from our humanitarian photography workshop

“This experience exceeded by expectations; Anna’s enthusiasm, energy and warmth, the group of photographers working together and forming a great team, the variety of NGO’s we visited, the beneficiaries and the staff. Reflecting on the whole experience, the highlights are all about the encounters with people and the generosity of spirit. I am grateful to have had the opportunity access these communities and contribute to the work of the NGO’s with my pictures.”

All meals and drinks are included. Lodge stays provide full board, while meals in the Maasai villages are prepared by a community chef following international hygiene standards, with dietary needs accommodated. Lunches are provided during project visits, including Mwema Centre and the Ngorongoro expedition, with children’s lunch boxes on day eight funded directly by this trip.
